Chapter 619 - 618: Prison Riot
Chapter 619 - 618: Prison Riot
As Sabo and Luffy charged into Impel Down, Sabo pulled a miniature Den Den Mushi from his pocket. Once the call connected, he shouted, "Iva! It’s time to move!""I’ve got it, Sabo-boy!" An androgynous voice came from the other end. "But my personal strength isn’t enough to contend with Magellan. You guys need to hurry. Have you memorized the map coordinates?"
"Yeah. Do me a favor and cause as much chaos as possible," Sabo reminded him before stowing the Den Den Mushi away.
By now, a sea of jailers stood in their path.
"The first level is simple. Let’s break through in one go!" Sabo shouted, his fingers already curved into Dragon Claw.
"Leave it to me, Sabo!" Luffy, his morale high, responded loudly. He stretched his arms back. "Gomu Gomu no... Bazooka!!"
Over a dozen jailers were sent flying in an instant. A squad leader shouted, "The leaders are Straw Hat Luffy of the Straw Hat crew and Sabo, the former Warlord! Quick, notify Warden Magellan—"
Before he could finish, Sabo charged in and kicked him into the forest of needle-leaf trees, where he was impaled and killed. Sabo yelled, "I am Sabo! Come on! I’m here to save my brother, Fire Fist Ace!"
It was a total frontal assault, exactly what Sabo and the others had planned. He knew that no matter how careful they were with a secret infiltration, they couldn’t hide from the countless Den Den Mushi cameras. Instead of a failed stealth mission, they chose to force their way down.
But it wasn’t a mindless assault; they were attacking while intentionally creating chaos. Whenever Sabo saw a jailer carrying keys, he would snatch them up in passing.
Warden Magellan, currently in his office waiting for the Marine escort, received two reports in quick succession. One, an invasion force led by Sabo and Luffy was rioting on Level 1 and was about to force its way into Level 2. And two, on Level 5, prisoners who had mysteriously disappeared during the "Demon’s Invitation" incidents were suddenly appearing out of nowhere. They were wreaking havoc on Level 5 and Level 4, opening jail cells and releasing prisoners. Even the jailers were finding it difficult to suppress them.
Without a doubt, this was a riot more severe than Shiki the Golden Lion’s escape twenty years ago.
"Warden Magellan, what should we do?" Domino, the Vice Head Jailer, saluted and asked for instructions.
Magellan’s face was dark, poisonous gas leaking from his mouth. "The most important thing right now is that the public execution of Fire Fist Ace proceeds smoothly. I’ll go to Level 5 first to suppress those pests who might threaten the execution. The rest of you, head to Level 3 and stop those bastards!"
"Yes, sir!" Domino remembered something and added, "What about Vice Warden Hannyabal...?"
"Leave that idiot at Level 1 to prevent anyone from leaving."
"Understood!"
...
Alucard walked along the corridors of Level 1, the Crimson Hell. Compared to the five levels below, this place was quite "normal." However, the floor was now littered with defeated beasts and jailers, and more than half of the cell doors had been opened, clearly a deliberate act.
Luffy wouldn’t have the wits for this; it was definitely Sabo’s idea.
"It’s... it’s Yonko Alucard the Immortal!!"
"Why is that monster here?!"
The prisoners Sabo had released were hoping to sprint to the exit and escape, only to run into someone far more terrifying.
"Where are you off to?" Alucard smiled at the group of prisoners in black-and-white striped uniforms.
"A-Alucard... we haven’t offended you. Please... just let us go," one prisoner mustered the courage to say. Having been locked up for years, the chance to leave was finally here. No matter who stood in their way, their will to survive couldn’t be extinguished.
"Fine," Alucard said, continuing to walk forward.
Everyone stared in disbelief. He agreed that easily? No way. The prisoners moved aside, creating a path for Alucard to pass.
Just then, one prisoner lunged out, using his remaining shackles as a weapon. He swung them toward the back of Alucard’s head, madness in his eyes. "If I take down a Yonko, I’ll be famous as soon as I get out!"
"You idiot!!" the pirate who had spoken to Alucard earlier screamed.
BANG!
A sudden shot rang out. The head of the prisoner attacking Alucard turned into a gory mess, blood geysering from his severed neck.
"Pirates are such foolish creatures."
Alucard, holding the white gun Casull, turned his head slowly. The others were about to beg for mercy out of fear, but what met them was a hail of bullets, each one accurately finding a skull.
Some prisoners who hadn’t been released because the keys didn’t match watched this scene and felt a secret sense of relief. Moments ago, they were beating their chests in frustration for not being able to escape, but compared to the others, they were the lucky ones.
Alucard continued down the path. The layout here was repetitive, full of crossroads that made it easy to get lost or end up back at the start. Considering Level 1 was this complex, the fact that Sabo’s group had disappeared so quickly suggested that Ivankov, who had been imprisoned here for years, was definitely involved.
"It seems my leisurely stroll can’t continue."
Alucard came here to pass the time, but wandering in circles in the same place was no fun. Soon, Alucard transformed into a shadow and vanished into the darkness of the walls.
The Vampire’s ability to phase through walls!
"He’s gone?" The remaining prisoners on Level 1 sighed in relief. Better to be alive in a cell than dead in the hall.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, everyone realized the walls and floor around them were being filled with dark red shadows. Blood-red eyeballs, each as large as an adult human, manifested within the shadows. The sight was enough to scare anyone out of their wits.
"Wha-what are these things?" The prisoners stared at the grotesque shadows and eyes, backing away to the very edges of their cells in terror.
