In the frigid cold streets, in front of a small restaurant, two weapons clashed. One was a razor-sharp metallic dagger imbued with transcendence magic, and the other a great poleaxe that brimmed with a majestic might similar to that of royalty.

As they struck at each other, sparks of flame lit up the air, causing the small snowflakes drifting down to melt once in close proximity.
This was how heated the battle was.
"This guy..." Leon’s mind ran on overdrive as he stopped attack after attack from landing. Carlson was every bit as battle-oriented as he was. Despite using a long-ranged weapon like the poleaxe, which required he strike from a distance, Carlson was able to maintain a close-ranged exchange with Leon for long bursts.
Not only that, each of his charges would aim at Leon’s weak spots, aiming to cripple or disarm him in the most brutal ways possible.
This kind of weapon mastery from someone so young was truly remarkable.
However,
Leon couldn’t let himself be bested so easily. So, as Carlson came in for a new charge, Leon slashed with his dagger horizontally, tearing through the very air itself. It was sudden and didn’t give enough time for Carlson to react, so he simply flew back, disappearing from sight.
He was already marked, though....

Leon started mounting pressure on Carlson, following him everywhere he went, not allowing him to completely land before swinging at him.
"I’m sweating," Carlson smiled bitterly. Leon was a pesky little flytrap; now that he had taken the initiative in this fight, it would be hard for Carlson to reverse the situation.
(Let’s create a little chaos.)
"Go!!" he barked, forcing the bird to blast at Leon with unbelievable speed, breaking the sound barrier itself.
But this wasn’t all. Halfway toward Leon, the sparrow split into two, and every millisecond that followed, more splits happened. Before Leon could even see it, one sparrow had turned into a hundred, then two hundred, and not long after—
They rushed him.
"Hmph," shocked by this sudden change, Leon abruptly jumped back and released several blasts of energy, hoping to destroy the swarm in one fell swoop. However, no matter how many times he attacked, the sparrows only kept increasing.
This was what the spell was built for; it was a newly developed swarm spell designed specifically to overwhelm 1000-man enemy troops. But in this instance, Leon here was in equal, if not more, danger than a thousand-man troop.
"This is bad," Leon cursed as he was slowly pushed into the air and overwhelmed by the jade sparrows.
"Badur’s Gates."
All of a sudden, an ominous gate appeared in the middle of the swarm, emitting a terrifying dark energy that made even Carlson frown.
Years ago, he had felt this energy while fighting alongside Leon in the Undercity; now here it was again.... But what was it?
"Devour."
Leon muttered, and the sparrows were sucked into the gate at an astonishing speed. In the blink of an eye, they were all swallowed completely.
"Wuuuu," Leon blew out a mouthful of air, then turned to Carlson with a bead of sweat on his forehead.
That attack just now wasn’t purely physical; these sparrows seemed to be sucking the very life from him. The amount thrown into an army?
He couldn’t imagine the damage.
(What has Sky Palace been up to?)
Leon mused before slowly descending. It seemed to him that Sky Palace was always prepared for the Undergod Alliance. Just the thought of the devastation a spell like that could cause when fully realized—
"It’s impressive, but it’ll take a lot more than that to defeat me." Leon smiled.
The war in the Undergod territory was important, even to him. But right now? His number one priority was to cross the wall. That was all.
"I figured," Carlson replied, still staring at the sight where Leon’s gate had appeared.
"Let’s get serious, shall we?" Leon asked, cracking his neck.
The battle had gone on for long enough.
