Chapter 289: Seige The Capital City
At the peak of the basin in which the capital resided, an army numbering hundreds of thousands stood at attention, looking down at the Luminara capital city.
"Attack!"
A second later, a voice resounded from the front of the army, and like flowing water, thousands of men surged straight down the slope in tight formations.
Their feet hitting the ground with a rhythmic wave caused the earth to shake and crack. An army of colossal proportions was approaching the capital city of Luminara.
"Bowmen, ready your arrows!"
At the top of the city walls, an army commander roared, and in response, thousands of bows were raised, waiting for the approaching army.
The Sacred Land and Undergod Monastery alliance had started with foot soldiers first. Although great in numbers, they were low in defense; the arrows would easily pick them off one after the other.
"Hold..."
"Hold..."
As the army approached slowly, the wall commander readied his men. Once they got into firing range, they would blacken the sky, picking off the warlocks like the dirty pigs they were.
"Shields up!" The army messengers on the alliance side rode down the formation line alerting the men to put up their shields against the upcoming volley.
"Fire!" A second later, the first volley of arrows left the bows of the city guard, aiming to claim as many lives as possible.
Laced with fire, poison, and even excrement, these arrows could kill the average man. Naturally, the people in this army were not ordinary men, so there was something extra about these arrows.
—boom—
An arrow exploded, causing a shield to shatter into pieces, leaving the man behind it exposed and his arm heavily injured.
The arrow had magical inscriptions glowing along the arrow heads
"Close all gaps!" Another army messenger rode by and commanded, and in no time, the gaps in the line of shields were filled by other men as the army marched forward steadily with conviction.
After about thirty minutes, the army finally made it to the wall of the city.
"They are preparing ramming equipment already, Commander!"
What they hoped for was a battle of attrition, where they could significantly weaken the enemy’s troops over a long period.
This was getting out of hand.
"Air defense!" He turned to the men behind the wall and called out. Moments later, another troop of men and women took to the sky and went straight for the alliance’s men.
"Ground troops, mounted troops, and now flight units. I think that’s pretty much it for this part," the lightning monk observed as the battle unfolded with a calm look on his face.
"It’s our turn, I guess," Kang said calmly, standing beside Leon and three others.
"Yeah, the stage has been set. Bridge the gap and bring home the victory." The lightning monk nodded as he looked at Kang.
In his heart, he couldn’t help but sigh; this Kang fellow was meant to be a transcendent being by now. At least he expected him to be one before that fool Thane.
Unfortunately, this was not the case. Still, it felt weird giving him commands.
...
"Okay, I will take the lead in clearing a path. Remember the plan."
In the skies above the fighting armies, Kang’s voice resounded as he spoke.
The battle below was already in full swing, and men were dying left, right, and center. Despite their large numbers, they were losing a lot of people in real time.
What they needed was a crippling strategy that would bring the fight to an end in a matter of minutes. That was where Leon came in.
Or, to be precise, his teleportation artifact. If he could use it on the gate, it wouldn’t matter what was blocking them; they could just go through from one place and end up right inside the city.
Unfortunately, according to Leon, he had to either be in close proximity or have been in close proximity to the target area before being able to open a gate through it.
This was a problem.
However, it was one they would be able to solve with effort. All they had to do was get close enough to the gate and create a path for Leon to fly over.
There would naturally be opposition, but that was why he was here.
"Okay, ready yourselves," Kang said, facing the city sky.
