Chapter 30 Beast Taming - Special Funds! The Privileges for Geniuses
Chapter 30 Beast Taming - Special Funds! The Privileges for Geniuses
The office is located at the far east end of the third floor.
As Su Chen pushed open the door, he glanced at it out of the corner of his eye. It was a single, independent office, not very big, but fairly tidy.
The desk is next to the window.
Several stacks of test papers were piled on the table, their edges slightly curled up, and red pen marks were still visible on the top one.
There were several martial arts textbooks piled up next to it, their spines worn white.
There was a potted green ivy on the windowsill, its leaves drooping, but it was growing quite lushly.
Zhou Qingguo walked behind his desk, put down the documents, turned around, unscrewed the thermos, blew away the foam, and took a sip.
"I called you here mainly to talk about beast taming."
He pulled up a chair and sat down, resting his elbows on the table, his gaze sweeping over the three faces.
"First, some good news. This morning, the school leaders held a meeting and tentatively decided that the school will allocate a portion of its funds to provide special subsidies for beast taming."
"Rewards will be given based on the strength and level of the beast, its combat performance, and the degree of taming."
"It's not just our No. 1 High School; other high schools in Jiangling City are also discussing this issue. The reward mechanism will be improved step by step; it won't be a one-off deal."
"In addition..." He paused, his tone becoming more serious, "This week's weekly test, the practical assessment section, will most likely allow players to bring their own beasts into the arena."
"After the exam, the Beast Tamer will receive additional resource rewards based on their performance in actual combat!"
"So you two," he said, looking at Su Chen and Chen Xue, "need to prepare in advance."
Chen Xue nodded, her voice soft but decisive: "Understood!"
Su Chen echoed, "Understood!"
Zhou Qingguo gave a satisfied "hmm," then turned his gaze and landed on the window.
"Jiang Wei".
Jiang Wei stood in front of the desk, sunlight streaming through the blinds and falling on her, casting interplay of light and shadow on her white school uniform.
Her hair was shorter than most girls', just reaching her ears, revealing her well-defined jawline and slender neck.
The stray hairs at her temples were tucked behind her ears, not a single strand out of place.
Her facial features aren't the kind that are so exquisitely perfect.
When put together, the word "heroic" immediately comes to mind!
"Jiang Wei," Zhou Qingguo put down his thermos, his tone softening slightly, "I'd like to hear your thoughts on these new regulations first. Do you have any plans?"
Jiang Wei said directly, "Teacher Zhou, I don't have any plans to cultivate beasts at the moment."
Zhou Qingguo didn't speak, but simply nodded slightly, signaling her to continue.
"I'm currently in a period of growth," Jiang Wei said calmly. "My main focus should be on self-improvement. Personal strength and talent are the trump cards that can never be eliminated!"
"Furthermore, at this point in time, it's honestly very difficult to find a high-potential beast tamer with enough talent to fight alongside me."
"Even if I find it, nurturing it will require a lot of resources and energy. Given my current situation, it will likely slow down my cultivation speed."
"So my current plan is to carefully select a beast tamer after I get into one of the top nine universities. By then, I'll have a wider range of choices and a greater chance of finding a partner that's truly right for me."
After she finished speaking, she nodded slightly to indicate that she had said her piece.
Zhou Qingguo listened quietly to the entire conversation, without showing any displeasure on his face.
He nodded: "Yes! It's good that you have that confidence!"
Then he changed the subject, his tone still calm but with a touch more seriousness: "However, there's one thing you need to think about clearly."
"With your current grades and this upward trajectory, getting into one of the top nine universities is absolutely guaranteed. I have no doubt about that!"
"But..." He tapped his index finger lightly on the table, "At your level, personal excellence is only part of the equation. If you want to improve further, you need to excel in other areas as well."
"And beast taming is now a new project."
"If you don't do it, someone else will. If you don't take the credit, someone else will."
Jiang Wei's lips moved slightly, but she didn't interrupt.
Zhou Qingguo continued, speaking slowly: "You can't wait until you get to university and suddenly find that most of the people around you at the same level have their own beast-taming partners. They started training them in high school, so they have a deep bond, excellent teamwork, and rich practical experience."
"By then, you'll be one step behind everyone else! And it will be too late to regret it."
He picked up his thermos and took another sip to moisten his throat.
"I'm not forcing you to get a pet right now. But there's some information I need to let you know."
"The school leaders reached a preliminary consensus at today's meeting that a special fund will be allocated for students with grades like yours to purchase and train beasts."
"You might as well use this money."
Jiang Wei was somewhat surprised and blinked her bright eyes.
If that's the case...
"Even if you don't bring your summoned beast with you for the college entrance exam," Zhou Qingguo put down his cup, "what about the weekly tests, monthly tests, or even the ten-school joint exam? Can't you bring it along to practice and see how it goes?"
"To be more practical, in the senior year of high school, if you want to gain a lot of points, you must take on training missions!"
"As for training missions, there are no restrictions. The school only looks at the results!"
Having a powerful beast by your side is always a great help.
He stopped and looked at Jiang Wei.
The office was silent for a few seconds.
Jiang Wei lowered her eyelashes, as if weighing something.
After a moment, she raised her head, her expression still impeccably calm: "Teacher Zhou, I need to go back and think about it carefully."
"Okay!" Zhou Qingguo didn't try to persuade him further. "Think it over carefully, there's no rush."
Su Chen stood by the side the whole time without saying a word.
Seeing how earnestly Teacher Zhou was speaking to Jiang Wei, he sighed silently in his heart.
Sigh~ Geniuses really do get preferential treatment!
Special funds.
When will I ever get this kind of treatment?
Go back and think about it. If it were me, I would have given in back then!
He was lost in thought when he heard Zhou Qingguo speak again.
"Chen Xue".
"Yes!" Chen Xue replied crisply and decisively.
"I have a general understanding of your family's financial situation; it's not bad."
Zhou Qingguo leaned back in his chair, his tone becoming more casual: "However, it's difficult to raise a beast that can keep up with your strength relying solely on your family."
"With your current grades, you should be able to get a special fund, but definitely not as much as Jiang Wei."
"Let me ask, what's the strength of your pet beast now?"
Chen Xue answered quickly: "Peak soldier level, should be able to advance to elite level soon."
"Hmm..." Zhou Qingguo nodded, "If they can be promoted to the elite level, they can still play a significant role in practical assessments."
He paused for a moment, then said carefully, "However, you should also understand that bringing a tamed beast into the arena will raise the scoring standards accordingly. You can't expect your tamed beast to get all the points for you; otherwise, you'll be judged as overly reliant on it, and points will be deducted."
"But overall, something is better than nothing. It's your choice."
"Okay! Thank you, Teacher Zhou." Chen Xue nodded.
"Okay, Jiang Wei, you and Chen Xue can go back first. Su Chen, stay behind."
After Chen Xue left, only Su Chen and Zhou Qingguo remained in the office.
Zhou Qingguo leaned back in his chair, finally shedding his formal demeanor as a homeroom teacher, a slight smile appearing on his lips.
"Close the door."
Su Chen turned around and closed the door, then turned back with a smile on her face.
The two of them acted like friends.
Zhou Qingguo unscrewed the thermos, took another sip, and then slowly spoke...
