Chapter 11 The Buddhist Scripture Appears After Being Refined by Fire
Chapter 11 The Buddhist Scripture Appears After Being Refined by Fire
He was startled, thinking to himself, "Is it really that coincidental?"
"Dad, where did this come from?" Lin Qing asked, turning around.
"You mean this? I picked it up from a stinky ditch. I don't know who threw it away. I thought the material was pretty good, so I picked it up. Is there a problem?" Lin Cheng asked.
"It's alright, I'll take this with me. Remember, don't tell anyone, and never touch a Buddha statue like this again," Lin Qing said seriously.
Lin Cheng also sensed something was wrong: "What's wrong?"
"It's alright, just remember what I said." Lin Qing said, then found a piece of black cloth, wrapped the Buddha statue in it, tied it to his body with a hemp rope, and took it to his own courtyard.
After finishing his meal, he went to the woodshed, placed the wooden statue on the ground, and began to ponder it carefully.
"Could it be this Buddha statue? It has three faces and eight arms, is half a person's height, and the shape matches perfectly, but where is the boxing manual?"
Lin Qing fiddled with it for a while but couldn't find any words carved on the Buddha statue.
He thought for a moment, then picked up his axe and began to chop, but to his surprise, he couldn't split it open. Instead, the axe bounced high into the air, leaving not even a mark.
Something's not right!
Lin Qing frowned. How could an ordinary wooden statue be so sturdy? He had already mastered the Eight Strikes of the Spirit Snake and was a martial artist at the early stage of Ming Jin. What kind of wood couldn't he split?
"Could there be some special way to open it?" Lin Qing frowned.
He had heard that there were extraordinary treasures and divine weapons in this world, possessing all sorts of incredible effects, but ordinary people could not come into contact with them.
After a moment's thought, he suddenly went back to his room, grabbed a kitchen knife, and made a cut on his hand. Blood splattered onto the wooden statue, but it didn't react.
"Could it really be an ordinary Buddha statue, just made of a special material?" Lin Qing frowned.
"Never mind that for now, what should we do with this Buddha statue?" Lin Qing pondered.
He immediately rejected the idea of handing it over to the authorities, because the authorities had never said that Yin Muhua was looking for a wooden statue. Handing it over voluntarily would be difficult to explain and would only cause trouble.
"Let's just dig a hole and bury him."
The courtyard was made of yellow mud, so digging a pit wasn't too difficult. Before long, the wooden statue was buried in the soil. Lin Qing then placed a large water vat in the corner on top of it, so that as long as he didn't mention it, no one would ever discover that there was a Buddha statue buried there.
"Once I figure out the secrets of this Buddha statue, I might be able to obtain a supreme martial arts manual." Lin Qing felt a surge of excitement.
As the saying goes, "If you don't take what Heaven gives, you will suffer the consequences." It's a real pity to let go of such a great gift that Heaven delivered right to our door.
Three more days passed.
Lin Cheng was managing his shop when someone suddenly pushed open the door and entered. The person was wearing a government uniform, was broad-shouldered and burly, and had a thick beard under his chin.
"Officer, please come in. What can I do for you?" Lin Cheng greeted him with a smile.
"Have you ever seen a three-faced, eight-armed wooden Buddha statue?" the burly man asked in a deep, thunderous voice.
"I have never seen him." Lin Cheng remembered Lin Qing's instructions and did not tell the truth.
The burly man arrived at the backyard, his eyes scanning back and forth. Seeing that the yard was full of broken and old things, he didn't linger and turned to leave.
Lin Cheng breathed a sigh of relief, thinking to himself that he should ask Lin Qing what was going on.
As the burly man stepped outside, he suddenly heard a shout behind him.
"Brother Han, it's so late, why are you still working on a case? Come on, let me treat you to some drinks and entertainment."
The burly man turned around and saw an old man with a goatee walking towards him with a smile; it was Jiang Baihe.
This man was none other than Han Tai, a constable in the Suppression Team.
"So it's Brother Jiang. A few days ago, Yin Muhua killed thirteen people from Yong'an Pawnshop. Now the whole city is in an uproar and everyone is on edge. I must arrest her and put her in jail as soon as possible," Han Tai said in a deep voice.
"Brother Han, it's just a few lowly commoners dying, why would you personally take action? I think you're looking for the wooden statue, aren't you?" Jiang Baihe said with a smile.
Han Tai gave Jiang Baihe a meaningful look: "I didn't expect you old ghost to be so well-informed. There is a supreme boxing manual inside that wooden statue. I must find a way to get my hands on it."
"Any news?" Jiang Baihe asked.
"Not yet. We can only use the old-fashioned method, starting with checking the major pawnshops and general stores. As long as the wooden statue is still in the county, we will find it sooner or later," Han Tai said coldly.
"Then I wish Brother Han all the best in his endeavors. I'll be going now." Jiang Baihe smiled.
"If Brother Jiang has any suspicions about the target, you can send someone to tell me, and I will send him directly to prison and torture him severely to find out the truth," Han Tai added.
"Haha, don't worry, Brother Han, I'll definitely let you know if there's any news." Jiang Baihe replied and turned to leave.
...
outside the city.
In an abandoned ancient temple, an old woman with a face covered in black spots and an ugly appearance sat cross-legged on the ground, surrounded by a group of men in black.
"Cough cough!" She coughed a few times, covering her mouth, and blood oozed from the corner of her mouth.
"Damn those night patrolmen, they only earn a measly amount of money a month, why are they risking their lives like that?" Yin Muhua's eyes flashed with anger.
Suddenly, another man in black slipped into the temple.
"Sir, the old master of the Han family sent a message saying that he can help us cover our tracks, but if we find the Tathagata Fist Manual, we must give him a share."
"That old devil is cunning and shrewd, he wants to take all the benefits. Tell him I agree," Yin Muhua shouted.
"Yes."
"You guys keep searching, you must find the wooden statue," Yin Muhua ordered in a hoarse voice.
"Sir, that wooden statue has been missing for so long. Is it still in the county, or has it been destroyed?" someone nearby asked.
"That wooden statue is a rare treasure, indestructible by weapons and impervious to water and fire. It is impossible for it to be damaged. As for whether it is in this county town, I am not sure. However, my son did lose it here half a year ago. If the Soul Suppression Division had not pursued it so closely, my son would not have lost such a valuable item," Yin Muhua said coldly.
As she spoke, she slowly rose and walked to the temple gate, gazing at the distant county town.
"Remember, fire refines the Buddha's body, and the scriptures will appear on their own. This is the simplest and most accurate method of judgment."
"Yes, sir!"
...
In the following days, the city was filled with an atmosphere of fear and unease, with everyone living in constant fear.
Lin Qing returned to the Night Patrol Division and resumed his normal life, working and practicing martial arts every day.
One day, while he was eating breakfast, he suddenly heard several helpers whispering about the matter again.
"Have you heard? A grocery store in the outer city was massacred; four people were killed!"
"This is insane! This Yin Yuan Sect demon is too ruthless."
"Hey, I heard that all the pawnshops and general stores have closed down."
"Even the demons of the Yin Yuan Sect have never been this crazy before. What's going on?"
"Who knows?"
...
Lin Qing frowned, feeling quite uneasy. Yin Muhua had previously targeted large pawnshops, but now he was even going after small general stores.
He was quite worried about the safety of his parents: "No, I have to go home again!"
At this moment, Shen Lian shouted, "Erzhuzi, go chop wood and boil water! I want to take a bath!"
"Okay!" a thin, dark-skinned boy replied.
A flash of inspiration struck Lin Qing: "Fire! Since it is a legendary boxing manual, its carrier must be extraordinary. It is normal for it to be impervious to water and fire. If I use fire to burn it, it will further prove that the Buddha statue is a rare treasure. If it is burned to ashes, it will also eliminate a hidden danger."
With this in mind, Lin Qing returned home the next day, dug the wooden statue out of the yard, chopped firewood, lit a fire, and burned the Buddha statue over the fire.
At first there was nothing unusual, but after a while, strange things suddenly happened.
On the Buddha statue, there are bright golden characters, each one full, clear and three-dimensional.
