Chapter 251 Mia's Protective Role
"But now is not the time for you to fight to the death. Once we've seized enough Divine Scepters and everyone is armed, I guarantee you'll have your own battle to fight. Now, how about we rely on that ally?"
She paused briefly, her gaze shifting to the shadows of the side passage, where a figure clad in dark brown crocodile armor stood silently, seemingly blending into the darkness.
"Now, I will answer you." Shirley turned to the side, raised her arm, and pointed at Li Ang.
"This is our ally, a human wizard, potion master, and guardian of the Fallen Leaf Nest from the outside world, Li Ang."
As she spoke, Li Ang stepped out of the shadows, and the cave fell into an eerie silence.
All eyes—shocked, curious, scrutinizing, and incredulous—were focused on Li Ang.
"He saved my life at Silver Dew Manor from the lightning and fire of the Divine Scepter," Sherry's voice continued, stating an undeniable fact.
"He also single-handedly concocted a life-saving medicine for us within three days, enough to sustain a war."
"His power surpasses that of any individual you have ever seen."
Shirley surveyed the now completely silent hall and said, word by word, "Tonight, he will single-handedly draw the fire of the Avalon garrison, paving the way for our future. I believe in him, and the Great Cave Master believes in him too. Now, I need you, and I need you to believe in him as well."
As soon as she finished speaking, Mia, who was representing the Fallen Leaf Nest, was stunned for a moment when she heard this arrangement. Then, her pale yellow vertical pupils suddenly ignited with anger!
An idea popped into her mind uncontrollably.
Shirley must have taken advantage of Li Ang being an outsider, which is why she forced him to complete the most dangerous and impossible task!
"No way!" Mia leaped out of the crowd, nimbly jumping to the front row. She looked up at Sherry on the stage, her fur bristling, tail standing erect, fangs bared, and she growled threateningly, "Sherry, what do you mean? Why should Li Ang do something so dangerous alone? Do you think he's easy to bully? Let me tell you, we of Fallen Leaf Nest will not allow it! Li Ang is our friend, our benefactor, and we will never let him go to his death!"
She was already petite, and standing next to the tall and robust Shirley, she appeared even smaller. But her fierce, protective aura silenced the surrounding noise.
Many orcs, whether they knew Mia or not, stared in astonishment at the suddenly enraged calico cat-woman.
Sherry looked at Mia, who was baring her teeth and hissing at her from below the stage as if she were about to pounce on her at any moment. A hint of surprise flashed in her icy blue eyes, followed by deep helplessness.
Just as she was about to explain, a calm voice came from the side: "Mia, calm down."
Li Ang emerged from the side passage, having shed his kobold disguise and reverted to his human form.
"Li Ang!" Mia turned around immediately, rushed to Li Ang's side in a few steps, tugged at the hem of his leather armor, and whispered anxiously, "Don't be afraid! Did Sherry force you? Our brothers and sisters from Fallen Leaf Nest are all here, we all support you. At worst, we won't fight this battle, I'll take you back!"
Seeing the genuine concern and indignation in her eyes, Li Ang felt a warmth in his heart, so he reached out and gently ruffled Mia's fluffy head: "Mia, thank you. But this wasn't Sherry's idea; it was my own request."
"You asked for this yourself?" Mia's eyes widened, giving her a look that said, "Are you crazy?"
Li Ang looked up, his gaze sweeping firmly across the representatives of each nest before finally landing on Mia's face. His voice was soft, yet clear enough to reach everyone's ears.
"Everyone, I am confident that I can complete the mission. Please trust me."
His tone was calm yet firm; though he didn't utter any grand pronouncements, it possessed a convincing power.
Mia looked at Li Ang's profile and recalled his ghostly skills in the forest, and the miracles he had performed by subduing wild beasts with a wave of his hand—the anger and worry in her heart were gradually replaced by a complex emotion.
Finally, she bit her lip, loosened her grip on Li Ang's leather armor, but still muttered, "Then you—you better be careful! If you die, I—I won't forgive you!"
Li Ang smiled at her and nodded.
Seeing this, Shirley's last shred of doubt vanished. She surveyed the crowd, her voice resolute: "The plan is set. Representatives, please return and relay the orders. Reorganize your ranks. When the moon hides, that will be the moment we sound the horn of counterattack! For freedom! For the future!"
"For freedom! For the future!" Inside the cave, the blood of the representatives from each lair was ignited, and their deep roars converged into an indomitable torrent.
After the meeting, Li Ang was kept behind by Auguste, and the Elf Prince had put on the bird beak mask again.
"Is everything ready?" he asked.
"Everything is ready," Li Ang replied.
August paused for a moment, then handed over a small leather pouch: "This contains signal crystals. Green means the infiltration was successful and evacuation has begun; yellow means the infiltration still needs time; and red means the infiltration failed, and the plan must be abandoned immediately, with all efforts focused on self-preservation."
Li Ang nodded, took the pouch, and stored it in his spatial ring.
After leaving the meeting room and arriving at the square, Li Ang and August split up and headed to Avalon.
After several hours of trekking, Li Ang and the orcs finally emerged from the intricate underground passages and quietly gathered at the edge of a dense forest outside the north gate of Avalon.
This place is closest to the city where the Arsenal is located. The tall white city walls gleamed faintly in the night, and the magic lights on the top of the walls were like stars adorning them.
Behind Li Ang was a dense, dark mass of orcs, their breaths heavy, their eyes gleaming with a mixture of tension and excitement.
Meanwhile, August had used his princely authority to lead an elite squad into the city, preparing to approach the Sacred Armory at any opportunity.
Li Ang then took out the signal crystal from his ring and examined it closely in the moonlight. The crystal was still transparent and showed no change in color.
This indicates that August and his team have not yet reached the target area, or have not yet begun their operation.
Time ticked by in anxious waiting, with only the rustling of leaves in the night wind and the faint sound of patrolling footsteps coming from the distant city walls.
About half an hour later, the crystal in Li Ang's palm suddenly changed from transparent to a warm yellow light.
"Yellow signal." Li Ang turned to Shirley beside him and whispered. Then he handed the crystal to Shirley, since he probably wouldn't have time to check the color of the crystal once the fight started.
