Chapter 66 Is the plush monster family?
"Please sit wherever you like. It's so convenient to have a big place, isn't it?" Sandramea warmly greeted Li Ang.
Li Ang's gaze swept across the room, finally landing on the desk by the window. Besides the piles of parchment and books, there was also an exquisite picture frame containing a slightly flowing magical oil painting.
The image shows a slightly younger Sandra Meyer, smiling brightly and wearing a gorgeous dress.
Beside her stood three… hairy, somewhat ugly little monsters? They were all dressed in dwarf-style finery, their bodies and faces covered in black curly hair.
Li Ang thought to himself, "This is probably some kind of special pet that Maya keeps? Or maybe some kind of mascot of the dwarves? It's drawn in a rather ugly-cute way."
Sandra Mea noticed Leon's gaze, walked over cheerfully, picked up the photo frame, and smiled nostalgically.
"Oh, this is my favorite family portrait. It was drawn when I left Ironforge to study at Wizard's Tower. Look, this is my father, and next to him are my two older brothers."
Li Ang's mind immediately went blank.
A...family portrait? Father? Brother?
He looked at the painting again, trying to make out the outlines of the three creatures covered in thick body hair.
Ignoring their full beards and thick hair, judging from their general body structure... they were indeed three humanoid creatures.
It was only because they were covered in body hair and were only about 60 centimeters tall that he initially mistook them for some kind of hairy little monster.
Sandra Meyer seemed completely unaware of the turmoil in Leon's heart. She carefully wiped the photo frame and put it back in its place.
Li Ang composed himself and focused his attention back on the thick stack of experimental records and the handwritten formula for the Giant's Strength potion.
Sandra Maya and Harris also gathered around, and the three of them began the research group's first formal discussion in this boudoir filled with the smell of iron and oil.
At first, Li Ang thought that it would be relatively simple to improve the existing mature formula, but the more he read those records, the more he frowned.
Harris explained from the side:
"The history of the Giant's Strength Potion is very long. After countless generations of wizards have optimized it, its formula and process have become very mature, almost reaching the limit of current materials science and refining techniques."
Li Ang discovered that most of the radical proposals Sandra Meyer had put forward had similar failure precedents in the records of his predecessors.
Those potions were either too potent, causing the user's body to collapse, or too expensive, making them prohibitive, or extremely unstable and difficult to preserve. Her entry for the competition, an improved version of the berserk potion, was a byproduct of this research project.
It took Li Ang nearly two hours just to read through all the preliminary materials and failure records and understand the difficulties involved. He rubbed his throbbing temples, deeply feeling the challenge of this project.
"Do you understand now?" Harris pushed up his glasses. "Simply enhancing or weakening is still possible, but simultaneously improving the effect and ensuring safety is no less difficult than redesigning a completely new high-level potion."
Sandra Mea's emerald eyes burned with fighting spirit: "That's why we need Li Angqing's brilliant ideas even more. We can't keep repeating other people's mistakes, can we?"
Li Ang pondered for a moment, recalling the lessons and his own potion-making philosophy, and then spoke:
"Harris is right, brute force won't work. Perhaps... we can try a different approach? We don't necessarily have to fixate on those few core berserk materials."
He pointed to several auxiliary ingredients on the recipe:
"For example, here, the addition of Ice Breath Grass powder is to neutralize some of the burning side effects, but it also slightly inhibits the effects of the main ingredient. What if we could find a material, or a processing method, that could better quell the berserk effects without affecting, or even enhance, the power boost?"
He then pointed to a section of the refining process:
"And here, the high-temperature, intense extraction stage, while maximizing the extraction of 'Dragon's Blood Thorn's' power, inevitably makes the medicinal properties restless. What if... we could use a gentler method for pretreatment?"
What Li Ang said was a combination of his cold extraction concept and complex stabilizer approach, but cold extraction cannot be exposed yet, so we have to think of other ways.
Harris's eyes lit up slightly. Although he felt that it would still be very difficult to implement, at least it was a feasible new direction that no one had explored in depth before.
Sandra Meyer slammed her hand on the table in excitement:
"That's right, exactly. Li Angqing, you're truly the best! Let's proceed along this line of thought!"
The discussion then became heated, with the three expressing their opinions. Although Sandra Meyer and Harris still had some minor disagreements on details, under Li Ang's leadership, they finally had a basis for working together.
By the time the discussion came to a temporary end, it was already completely dark outside the window.
"That's enough for today." Li Ang stood up. "I need to go back and think about it more carefully, especially regarding the selection of alternative materials and pretreatment processes."
"Yes, yes, Li Angqing, you've worked hard." Sandra Meya nodded vigorously. "We'll continue after class tomorrow."
Harris also politely took his leave: "Looking forward to your new ideas, Wizard Leon."
Leaving Mayana's room filled with weapons and armor, I returned to my quiet single room, reactivated the [Gentle Breeze Barrier], and entered meditation.
A strong mental fortitude is the foundation for dealing with all challenges, whether it's potion research or potential dangers. As for thinking about how to improve the potion, he doesn't have any good ideas right now, so he might as well meditate.
The next day, after the class on the fifth floor ended, Sandramea immediately came over full of energy again. She had just opened her mouth and hadn't even said a word when a figure dressed as a wizard's follower at the classroom door caught her attention, as well as Li Ang's.
The man's gaze swept across the classroom, quickly locking onto Li Ang. He strode over and bowed respectfully.
"Lord Leon, Lord Seronster has sent me to request that you come to the Enforcement Team Hall."
Li Ang recognized the person as the wizard attendant who had tested his spiritual talent on the ship. He understood; it seemed that his joining the enforcement team had been resolved.
He gave Sandra Meyer and Harris an apologetic look: "The research group's matter will probably have to wait a little longer."
Although Sandra Meya was somewhat puzzled as to why the enforcement team wanted to see Li Ang, she knew it must be something important, so she waved her hand and said, "Go ahead, Li Ang, there's no rush here."
