Chapter 2 The Bear is a Real Bear
Chapter 2 The Bear is a Real Bear
"Bear! Bear! Bear!"
Gebu rolled into a ball and fled desperately down the hillside.
The half-elf's eyes widened, he muttered runes, and his fingers flashed... Just as he was about to shoot a fire arrow at the goblin, he saw the furious fire bear behind Geb!
"Ogmar's Beard!" The wizard instantly turned his finger, and a flaming arrow shot towards the bear's face.
call!
The bear was enormous, rolling down the hillside like a flint weighing a ton. The flaming arrows flew in a straight line through the air and struck its shoulder, leaving a scorch the size of a bowl on the bear's flesh—but this did not stop it from moving forward; instead, it made it even more furious.
The giant bear dashed down the hillside like lightning, catching up to the goblin in an instant, and was only a few steps away from the half-elf.
Geb felt a huge shadow cover his body. He subconsciously bent his knees, curled his body into a ball, and crouched down with his hands over his head to make himself as small as possible.
Bite him, but don't bite Gebu! Bite him, but don't bite Gebu! Gebu muttered to himself in a rapid-fire manner.
Thump! A bear paw bigger than Gebutou stepped on the ground beside him, leaving a footprint an inch deep.
"Squeak—" the goblin let out a sharp, rat-like squeak.
The giant bear seemed to be blinded by the smoke and dust left by the flaming arrow, making it unable to see people clearly. In addition, its body momentum was too great, and it couldn't stop, so it stepped directly over Gebu's head!
Just as the half-elf was about to cast another spell, the bear was already in front of him. With a roar, the bear, weighing over a ton, leaped into the air, brandishing its giant claws, and pounced towards the wizard.
"Abeo!"
The wizard opened his mouth and chanted, and in an instant, his figure turned into a mist and then suddenly disappeared.
The bear's paw had already swung towards the half-elf's face, but it missed, and its body flew out, crashing to the ground with a thud. Instantly, the ground shook, and the flames burning on its back scattered under the impact.
Dirt flew everywhere, and sparks flew.
Gebu was stunned. He watched as the bear crashed to the ground and the half-elf vanished without a trace... Only then did he realize what had happened and turned to run away.
He had only taken two steps when he looked up and saw a figure in front of him—the half-elf wizard had appeared in front of him at some point.
"You little bastard, you despicable scoundrel!"
The half-elf's face was deathly pale, his expression ferocious, and his whole body trembled uncontrollably, whether from anger or weakness, it was hard to tell.
Geb didn't have time to pay attention to him, and hissed at him like a cat, baring its sharp teeth.
Get out of here! A bear is coming!
"You..." The half-elf raised his hand, about to lash out, but suddenly looked away, glancing behind Geb.
The bear was thrown hard, but in its extreme anger, it couldn't feel the pain at all.
It climbed out of the crater it had created, shook its head, and shuddered, its fat fur now extinguished, the charred grease emitting a nauseating stench.
It exhaled through its nostrils, its two black bean-like pupils fixedly staring at the two unlucky fellows, one tall and one short.
The leader of the Broken Tooth tribe was a bear goblin, and her size was already terrifying enough. This guy was a real forest giant bear! He was the size of ten bear leaders!
Gebu instantly regretted spreading the rumor about the bear; what a jinx...
The cave was uphill, the two were halfway up the slope, and the bear was downhill. The bear didn't rush up; it was panting and recovering its strength at the bottom of the slope.
The half-elf behind Geb was also panting heavily, clearly unable to run any further.
Geb's eyes darted to the side of the hillside, and he was about to make a move when the half-elf suddenly grabbed him by the neck.
"Don't run!"
The goblin turned and bit the wizard's hand! Two small yellow canine teeth pierced the skin, tearing off a piece of skin from the half-elf's hand.
The goblin knew exactly what to do. When faced with a life-or-death situation, Gob's survival instincts helped him make the decision.
Geb isn't stupid! Geb can't outrun a bear, but he can outrun you! Your rocket missed, so Geb might survive, but if he stayed, he'd definitely be bitten to death by the bear!
"Ouch!" The half-elf winced as he was bitten, instinctively pulling his hand away. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Geb ran away.
Halfway up the hill, they saw that the bear hadn't gone up to catch the half-elf, but instead circled halfway down the hill, blocking Gebu's path.
Oh dear! Gebu quickly stopped and tried to go around it, but the bear followed him everywhere, refusing to let him leave the hillside.
Brother Xiong, what do you mean?! Give me a way out?
Gebu had a bad feeling. Could it have smelled his scent inside the cave, knew that he had set the trap, and come to seek revenge? He never expected that this guy, who was so big, would be so petty and vindictive.
After circling the hill, Gebu couldn't find a chance to go down, so he had to run back. As soon as he turned around, he saw a rocket hurtling towards his face!
Be nice!
Goblin instinctively dodged, and the rocket grazed the goblin's face before hitting the ground in front of the bear.
"Aww!!!"
The giant bear was enraged!
It took heavy steps and rushed up the hillside!
The half-elf cursed under his breath, glanced to the side, wrinkled his nose, and fled into the cave.
Geb scrambled up the hillside, not even having time to look back at the bear. When he reached the top, he saw the half-elf had already disappeared into the cave.
Geb looked down the slope, then at the cave—he could never outrun a bear outside.
Hopefully, the bear will eat the half-elf first!
Then the goblin followed the half-elf and fled into the cave.
As Geb heard the bear's footsteps getting closer behind him, he kept switching between his two short legs, pushing away the spike traps (that half-elf had entered the cave in the dark but hadn't fallen in; could he also see in the dark?), and passing the crossbow that had already been triggered, he reached a place near the end of the cave. Turning a corner, he suddenly saw a flash of fire in the darkness.
"Igni..."
"Ceasefire! Ceasefire!" Gebu shouted, raising his hand.
The half-elf hesitated for half a second, then actually stopped casting the spell. He leaned against the cave wall, unable to support his own weight, gasping for breath.
After wandering this distance through the cave, the wizard's robe came undone, revealing the bulging thing hidden in his abdomen.
It was a thick, golden book. And it really was a magic book!
Geb couldn't understand the books of this world; the language of this other world was different from his own. Having not read or studied for so long, his mind had become goblin-like, remembering only eating, drinking, robbing, cruelty, and cunning.
In the entire tribe, only the old shaman could read human writing—though even then, it was halting and difficult.
To Gebu's surprise, the man's exposed belly was completely blackened and rotten, as if it had been burned. Was it burned by the book? Yet this guy still treasured the book and kept it close to his body, not letting his guard down at all, even at this moment.
"Hey, goblin, we have to cooperate, or we'll both end up in the bear's belly," the half-elf said through gritted teeth.
Having to negotiate with the goblins must have made him very unhappy.
Geb's eyes darted around. He was hoping the bear and the wizard would both be severely injured... but it didn't seem that simple. The wizard was very wary and certainly wouldn't go up and fight the bear himself.
Moreover, if a half-elf dies, he won't be able to get out and will still be eaten by the bear.
It seems the best course of action is to join forces with the half-elf, kill the bear, and then wait for the half-elf to die on his own—judging by his appearance, he won't live much longer.
"I need you to hold off that bear for a few seconds. I need time to cast a spell," the half-elf continued, seeing that the goblin hadn't refused the offer to cooperate.
Upon hearing the word "magic," Gebu trembled. This huge fireball, combined with the narrowness of the cave, would surely burn him to death!
He frowned, his eyes darting around. The half-elf seemed to sense the fear in the goblin's eyes and said:
"I will protect you. I am a wizard of the Evocation School, and my spells will not harm my allies—you have no choice, goblin, you can only trust me."
Gebu was still hesitating when he heard the heavy thud of a giant bear landing after leaping over the spike trap!
