Chapter 17 Iron Falcon
Chapter 17 Iron Falcon
Outside the Hall of Merit, Lu Yuan walked inside, with Lao Huang following behind. There were quite a few people inside.
As soon as I entered the courtyard, I heard people talking.
"Have you heard? Recently, a group of Northern Barbarian Iron Falcons has come to the vicinity of the city. There aren't many of them, only fifty or sixty, but they've already killed three hundred-man patrol teams that went out to patrol our area. Yunmo from Tiger Hill Fortress has taken on the mission, saying that he's going to wipe out this group."
"Then there shouldn't be any problem. Who is Yunmo? He's the young tiger of the Northern Frontier. In a battle of equal scale, I'm afraid only he can do it."
......
The murmurs continued, but Lu Yuan paid little attention.
The Iron Falcons are one of the strongest elite troops of the Northern Barbarians. Although they are few in number, they are skilled in archery and horsemanship and are all clad in iron armor, making them a force that our team cannot match.
All he had to do was obediently find some normal scouts from the northern barbarians, earn some military merits, and make some money.
After looking through the tasks at the location where I received them, I finally chose the one that suited me best.
A scout team of twelve from the northern barbarians included two skilled scouts who had entered the territory.
This one is pretty good; I'll practice with it first.
After selecting the task, Lu Yuan turned to Lao Huang and said, "Notify the others to assemble first thing tomorrow morning."
"I'll go right away." Old Huang nodded and left.
Lu Yuan also went outside, preparing to go home.
However, as soon as they arrived outside the city defense headquarters, they saw Zhou He walking out side by side with someone.
Upon seeing Lu Yuan, the other party's face lit up with joy.
"Lu Yuan, I was just about to go find you for a drink."
As he spoke, he turned his gaze to his companion and continued, "This is my friend Wu Han. Although he hasn't become a squad leader yet, he has already entered the realm. He has good talent. Let's go have a drink together."
When Lu Yuan looked over, he saw a burly young man, but for some reason, his face was bruised and swollen.
Upon seeing him, he smiled and said, "Greetings, sir."
"We're all friends, no need to be so polite. Shall we have some beef offal?" Lu Yuan said with a smile.
Zhou He is a good person; he's a friend he approves of, so there shouldn't be any major problems.
"Okay," Zhou He replied, and the three of them headed towards the beef offal restaurant.
It's morning now, the restaurant has just opened, and there aren't many people yet.
After finding a quiet place to sit down, the three ordered a pot of beef offal and a few cold dishes, and then started drinking.
Wu Han was a man of few words; during the meal, Zhou He did most of the talking.
After a few drinks, the other party became more talkative, looking at Wu Han and saying, "Are you just going to put up with this? Your squad leader beats you today, and tomorrow he'll dare to shit on your head."
"You've already entered the country, so why aren't you afraid to do anything to him?"
Zhou He has a slight lisp.
Lu Yuan drank his wine without saying a word. He wasn't familiar with Wu Han, so he just listened.
"Brother Zhou, this isn't a question of whether we can win or not. Our squad leader is the centurion's brother-in-law. What can I do?"
"Your Centurion Sun is a bastard too, his men are all related by blood. But you can't back down. When someone becomes strong, they have to stand firm. If you don't have guts, even if you break through to the Bone Forging stage, people will still bully you. The Northern Frontier is not a kind place to begin with. You have to be ruthless to stand firm."
Zhou He glanced at Wu Handao.
The latter did not speak.
He just kept his head down and ate his meal.
Seeing his expression, Zhou He didn't bother to say anything more, and instead asked Lu Yuan, "Have you been leaving the city recently?"
"Going out tomorrow, what? You have something on your mind?" Lu Yuan said, taking a sip of his drink.
"I'm not planning to go out for the time being." Zhou He picked up a piece of food with his chopsticks, hesitated for a moment, and then turned to Wu Han.
"Aren't you short of money lately? How about going with Lu Yuan tomorrow? He's quite capable, nothing bad will happen to him," Zhou He asked.
It's clear that he takes good care of Wu Hanting.
After hesitating for a moment, the other person said, "I won't go."
Then, he continued eating, and after a short while, he had finished most of the pot of beef offal. He then stood up and said, "My mother needs to take her medicine. I'll go back first, and we can sit down again another day."
"You son of a bitch, I helped you out of a tight spot, and we almost got into a fight, and you didn't even pay for your meal before just wiping your mouth and leaving?" Zhou He felt he had lost face in front of Lu Yuan.
Wu Han chuckled and said, "Next time, I'll treat you two next time."
After saying that, he turned around and walked out of the house.
As Wu Han disappeared outside the door, Zhou He shook his head toward the door and said, "This kid has great talent and his strength is improving rapidly, but he's too timid. He's been in the city defense department for several years, but he just doesn't want to leave the city."
And he keeps wanting to be transferred to the supply battalion; I don't even know what to say to him.
"Everyone has their own way of living. As a friend, you can just offer a few words of advice. Saying more would make things awkward," Lu Yuan said softly.
Not everyone has the courage to fight desperately, and this has nothing to do with ability.
"I've been angry all these years, and there aren't many people I can be friends with. You're one of them, and the other one is him, but Wu Han just can't seem to be helped up no matter what."
Zhou He took a swig of wine and said.
After venting their frustrations to Lu Yuan, the two paid their bill and left.
Lu Yuan didn't take this incident to heart.
On his way home, he bought some refined noodles and braised pork and went directly to Xiao Hua's house.
Seeing what he was carrying, the other person blinked: "Are you planning to leave the city again?"
He took the bag while speaking and began to quickly prepare to knead the dough.
Lu Yuan responded and then began to assist.
He chatted casually with Xiao Hua's mother for a while.
Now, the three of them are like a family. Lu Yuan is not reserved here and does whatever he is supposed to do.
Xiao Hua's mother seemed quite pleased to see this.
After dinner, Lu Yuan finished making a pot of steamed buns and then went home.
He didn't cultivate today; instead, he went to bed early.
The next morning, just as dawn was breaking, he took some dry rations and led a horse out the door.
Lu Yuan recently built a stable at home and kept both horses there, which made it much more convenient for them to go out.
When they arrived at the city gate, Wei Yong and his companions were already waiting.
Upon seeing Lu Yuan, he quickly stepped forward and bowed, saying, "My lord."
"No need for formalities, let's set off now that everyone's here," Lu Yuan said slowly after glancing at everyone and confirming that they had all arrived.
Then, he shoved a map into Lao Huang's hand: "Do you know where Guhe Village is?"
After glancing at the map, the other person said, "They're not far from us, only about 70 or 80 li away. These scouts are pretty bold, daring to wander around this place. We'll definitely catch them before dark."
Old Huang grinned.
Lu Yuan nodded: "Then let's set off."
After saying that, he leaped onto the horse's back.
He led more than ten people toward the outskirts of the city.
The sound of horses' hooves kicked up clouds of dust, which disappeared in a short while.
At the same time, near Guhe Village, a group of a hundred people was stationed, led by a young man dressed in black iron armor and carrying a long spear.
He sat on horseback with a serious expression, his back ramrod straight.
A small scar at the corner of his eye—this was Yun Mo, the centurion of Tiger Hill Fortress, and a disciple of Zhou Ming, the third master of the Zhou family.
"This 'Iron Falcon' scouts have joined up with the other scouts."
Yunmo said softly, "Far away, a group of Northern Barbarian cavalry, numbering around sixty or seventy, is confronting them."
