Chapter 297 Holiday
Chapter 297 Holiday
September passed quickly, and before she knew it, Song Huan had been at Nanjing University for almost a month.
The leaves on the sycamore avenue turned from green to yellow, and the edges began to curl up. A few leaves would fall with a gust of wind, covering the ground with a thin layer.
The slogans from military training on the playground are long gone, replaced by the scattered sounds of running during physical education classes and the endless sounds of basketball on the court.
Tomorrow is National Day.
Song Huan gave his subordinates a few days off, and Chen Fei led the five energetic young men back to Jiangcheng.
Wu Tian, however, did not leave.
He was alone in that office that hadn't been tidied up yet, facing the computer he had just bought, and began to build the backend architecture.
But Wu Tian would call from time to time.
The frequency is about two to three times a day.
The content is basically the same.
"President Song, where is everyone? Why am I the only one in the entire company?"
Every time Song Huan answered the phone, she felt apologetic.
He started using "very quickly," then switched to "as soon as possible," then to "quickly," then to "immediately," and finally to "right away."
By now, he has used almost every word that indicates something is about to happen but the exact time is uncertain.
He lay on his dormitory bed and said into his phone, "Brother Wu, you can start building it first. I'll definitely get everyone recruited after National Day."
Wu Tian remained silent for a while on the other end.
That silence wasn't because they believed; it was because they were tired.
"OK."
After hanging up the phone, Song Huan held it to her chest.
Zhang Yang and Liu Yu ran away yesterday; one went back to Northeast China, and the other went back to his hometown.
Shen Yan also left. When he left, he asked him what his plans were for the National Day holiday, and he said he hadn't made any plans.
The dormitory was empty, with only him left.
The phone rang again.
He thought it was Wu Tian again.
I picked it up and looked at it; it wasn't.
It's a friend request on QQ.
"The Waiting Girl" has requested to add you as a friend.
A familiar profile picture: a cartoon cat with its ears standing up.
A somewhat familiar name, a girl waiting.
He remembered that in her past life, she was called "the heartbroken girl," but now she had become "the waiting girl."
He thought about it for a moment and then clicked "agree".
He typed a few words to me as soon as we added each other as friends.
"Who gave you my QQ number?"
The reply came instantly: "Xia Rou."
Song Huan leaned against the pillow and typed.
"Okay, I'll delete her right now."
"No, no!"
Lin Yue's messages popped up almost non-stop, one after another: "Don't delete her! She's my roommate! What will I do if you delete her!"
Song Huan was just joking; she didn't really intend to delete it.
He held his phone up to his face, looked at the few lines of hurried messages on the screen, and his lips twitched slightly.
The waiting girl... what is she waiting for?
Just as he was thinking, Lin Yue sent another message.
"Song Huan, tomorrow is National Day, let's go out and have fun!"
"I'm not going."
"Go on, go on!"
"I'm not going."
"I haven't even said where I'm going yet!"
"I'm not going anywhere, no matter where."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end, then messages popped up like a machine gun.
"I checked, the weather tomorrow will be perfect, not too hot or too cold, ideal for going out. It's such a waste for you to stay in the dorm. Besides, it's a seven-day National Day holiday, you can't just lie around all day, can you? You'll ruin your health. Let me tell you, there are so many fun places in Nanjiang that I haven't been to yet, can you take me? You're the class monitor, it's only right that you care about your classmates, you said it yourself."
Looking at that long string of messages, Song Huan could almost picture her typing them.
Sitting on the bed, holding her phone, her fingers flying across the keyboard, her lips slightly pursed, her eyes bright.
"Find someone else."
"I'm looking for you."
Why?
There was silence on the other end again.
Several seconds later, a message popped up.
"Because you are my only good friend here."
Song Huan's finger hovered over the screen for a moment.
He sighed.
"OK."
"Really?!?!" The message was replied to instantly, followed by a long string of exclamation marks.
"What time tomorrow?"
"9 o'clock! Wait for me downstairs at the girls' dormitory!"
"understood."
He placed his phone next to his pillow.
The fluorescent light tubes on the ceiling were still humming.
October 1st, such a meaningful day, was actually given to Lin Yue.
Fortunately, Xiao Yunqing didn't come looking for him.
He had intended to send her a message asking where she was going for the National Day holiday. He had even typed the message and his finger hovered over the send button, but then he thought about it and deleted it.
It would be awkward if she asked me where I was going tomorrow.
He placed his phone screen face down against his chest and closed his eyes.
……
The next morning, Song Huan arrived at the girls' dormitory building.
The nine o'clock sunlight filtered through the gaps in the sycamore leaves, falling on the ground in patches of light and shadow.
He leaned against the lamppost, hands in his pockets, waiting.
The dormitory supervisor sat at the first-floor window, watching him warily.
Song Huan was already used to it.
The dormitory door opened, and Lin Yue ran out.
She wore a light yellow floral dress today, the hem of which reached her knees, and her waist was cinched tightly.
Her hair was down, draped over her shoulders, with the ends slightly curled.
She was wearing a pair of white canvas shoes with the laces tied tightly.
Standing in the morning light, I looked like a newly opened flower.
The boys passing by turned their heads away as if drawn by a magnet.
Someone had walked several steps and was still looking back when they bumped into the person in front of them.
Lin Yue ran up to Song Huan, stopped, and was slightly out of breath.
Then she reached out and took his arm.
She wrapped her arms around his and pressed herself against him, the movement so natural, as if she had done it many times before.
Song Huan was stunned for a moment.
The gazes of the surrounding boys instantly shifted from envy to jealousy, and then from jealousy to a complex mix of "why does this person have such a high opinion of themselves?"
Song Huan sensed this and felt a secret sense of satisfaction.
He looked quite well-dressed today, all clean and crisp.
[Several girls were peeking at him as he stood under the streetlight waiting for me.]
[They must be wondering who this boy is waiting for. I saw him from upstairs, so I wanted to let them know he was waiting for me!]
Song Huan glanced down at her.
She was looking up at him, her eyes bright, her eyelashes fluttering.
She was still holding his arm, not letting go.
"Let's go," he said.
Lin Yue smiled and let go of his hand, walking beside him.
After taking a couple of steps, she came closer again, "Where are we going to play?"
Song Huan looked at her, "Didn't you ask me out? You even asked me where we were going."
Lin Yue pouted, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, "I'm a girl, so I'll be responsible for asking you out, and you'll be responsible for taking me out to play."
Song Huan looked at her self-righteous demeanor and remained silent for two seconds.
"You've probably never been to an amusement park."
Lin Yue's eyes lit up instantly.
She definitely hasn't been there.
When I was a child, I lived in a rural area of Jingnan, where there were no amusement parks in the mountains.
Later, when she went to Jiangcheng, Zhao He was busy and no one took her there.
Later, I returned to my rural hometown in Jingnan to attend junior high and high school, and then I had no more opportunities.
She had only ever seen them on TV: roller coasters, Ferris wheels, carousels—those colorful things spinning and turning on the screen.
"real?"
"Um."
She jumped for joy, her ponytail swaying.
Then she grabbed his arm and pulled him forward, saying, "Come on, come on!"
