736 Chapter 726. Valuable The Incubus System Chapter 726. Valuable Celia's gaze remained fixed on me, her stare flat and unyielding. She didn't even need to say anything—her concern was practically radiating off her like heat from a furnace. Meanwhile, I just kept eating my sandwich like nothing was wrong, chewing slowly, pretending I didn't notice her stare boring into me.
Honestly, this was starting to feel like a defense mechanism. If I acted unfazed, maybe she'd let it go. Maybe.
The silence stretched. It was almost impressive how long she could sit there, just watching me, like she was waiting for me to crack. But before she could speak, Foxy finally lost it.
"Uh, Master," she whined, shifting uncomfortably. "Celia is really, really worried about you." Her ears drooped slightly, and she looked at me with those big, concerned eyes.
I sighed, setting down what was left of my sandwich. "I know," I said, keeping my tone even. "And I'm sure she knows that I don't appreciate it when she worries so much." I glanced at Celia, raising an eyebrow. "Must I remind everyone that I'm fully aware of my own limits? I know when I need to step back."
The air felt heavier for a second. I didn't mind people caring, but I did mind being treated like I was some reckless idiot who didn't think things through. Sure, I pushed myself sometimes, but I wasn't stupid.
Celia's expression softened—only slightly—but the frustration in her eyes was still there. She crossed her arms, clearly not convinced. "I remember," she said, voice calm but firm. "But you also know how much I despise that side of you. The side that brushes off my concern like it's nothing. The side that acts like you're invincible."
I sighed again, louder this time, and stood up, taking my plate to the sink.
Grabbing a glass, I filled it with water, condensation trickling down the sides as I took a slow sip.
"Well," I said finally, placing the glass on the counter. "I suppose that makes us even."
Celia frowned. "Even?"
I turned back to her, tilting my head slightly. "Yeah. You hate it when I act like I can handle everything on my own. And I hate it when people act like I can't. So I guess it's a draw." I smirked. "We're both equally annoyed."
Her frustration deepened, her hands tightening into fists. "What kind of response is that?" she snapped.
I shrugged. "A flat one."
Her glare intensified.
With a dramatic sip, I finished my drink, letting the cool liquid wash down the last of my meal. I placed the empty glass on the counter, leaning against it lazily as I watched her stew in her own irritation.
Her breath hitched slightly as I reached out and patted her head.
"Just take care of yourself," I murmured, my voice quieter now. "That's more than enough for me."
For a moment, she didn't move. Then, slowly, she leaned into the touch, her shoulders relaxing just a little.
I didn't wait for her to respond.
With one last ruffle of her hair, I teleported again, disappearing from the kitchen and reappearing in my room.
