The sound of a doorbell rang the next morning, as Carlson, with his silver hair waving in the wind, walked back into the restaurant with a fur coat.

The storm had ramped up the night before, blowing up a freezing atmosphere that left residuals of cold even now.

"Hey, what’s up?" Rubbing his hands together, Carlson walked casually to a table and took his seat before signaling to the two men who accompanied him to create space.

He had woken up to a message on his window written with the insignia of the faceless mercenary company not long ago, so he immediately rushed over.

Leon wanted to see him, and it was apparently important.

"Nothing much." Leon sipped a hot beverage while looking at the waitress behind the counter out of the corner of his eye.

She was eavesdropping on their conversation.

"Oh?" Carlson, of course, noticed this, and with a simple wave of his hand, forced her to bow and leave their side with quick haste.

Sky Palace was the governing entity over this region; as such, their members were seen as the law in every aspect.

"Okay." Leon put the cup down upon seeing the waitress leave, then he looked back at Carlson with a serious look on his face.

"I need to ask you for a favor." Leon’s voice sounded like an echo in the room, but at the same time it revolved only around both of them.

"You need a favor?" Carlson was momentarily stunned.

Leon was asking him for a favor? This guy who always seemed to be self-sufficient, only trading favors for some sort of benefit, was asking for a favor? This was definitely out of place.

"Naturally, it’s a bit embarrassing, I know." Leon smirked bitterly.

He wasn’t some island. He understood when he needed help and would frequently ask for it, but he never did so without adding value or bringing something in exchange for those favors.

This made the people around him think he was too prideful or arrogant to ask for help, but this was not true.

Carlson knew this, of course, but he also knew how to keep a safe distance and not implicate himself. However, if they wanted to keep this status quo between them, then it was only right that Carlson knew his end goal.

"I want one thing. It’s not really complicated."

"I want to live... forever."

"Not in some figurative sense."

"I mean I never want to die."

"Not by the pull of age, not by the pull of a dagger, not by causality."

"I want to see the beginning and the end and still remain."

"And do not ask me why. I have no reason you can understand."

"Just know that is what I want."

"immortality."

Leon spoke at length, each word as thunderous as the last. The resolution in his voice, the tone at which he spoke—it was like listening to a great philosopher and a crazy person at the same time.

"I see." Carlson fell back into his seat and picked up a bottle of wine from inside his coat and gulped it down.

"And I presume you won’t let anything get in your way in this pursuit. It wouldn’t matter if they were innocent or not; you would kill everyone and everything for this goal?" Carlson asked.

"Yes," Leon responded firmly and without hesitation.

"You won’t succeed," Carlson added.

"Maybe, but it won’t be from a lack of trying," Leon responded. He didn’t mind dying on this path; it wouldn’t be the first time he died for his ideals.

"I will stop you if you choose this path." Carlson’s eyes became firm and resolute. This friend of his was on a path of destruction and blood; he could not in all good conscience let him go on.

"You will try," taking a sip of the tea infront of him

Leon said "but you will fail."
